Spanish foundry’s new DISAMATIC D3Z-555 is the latest milestone in 45 years of DISA-driven moulding

Funosa and DISA: a very productive relationship

Funosa has installed a new DISAMATIC D3Z-555 green sand moulding machine. This state-of-the-art machine is the latest development in over 45 years of DISAMATIC-driven production at the Spanish foundry, which manufactures cast iron products for a wide range of sectors, from agricultural machinery and civil engineering to automotive and elevators.

Supported by Euro-Equip, the new DISAMATIC D3 was commissioned on schedule in August 2021 and is already delivering higher quality and productivity at Funosa’s Odena facility near Barcelona.

DISA and Funosa have had a long and successful relationship, with Funosa’s first DISAMATIC 2013 A arriving in 1975 and a second 2013 MK4 line installed in 1982. A new DISAMATIC MK5X arrived in 2000 to replace both 2013 machines and tirelessly worked three shifts for over 20 years.

The most advanced moulding machine

The DISAMATIC D3’s arrival marks the final step in the complete modernisation of Funosa’s moulding line. Previous enhancements in 2018 included a DISA TM (Turbine Mixer), two DISA SMCs (Sand Multi Controllers) and a Wheelabrator CT4 Continuous Through-Feed Tumblast machine.

“With this latest upgrade, we have fully renewed our vertical moulding line and ensured our present and future competitiveness,” says Arnau Solé, Funosa’s Sales Manager. “The latest investments on the DISAMATIC line have enabled us to achieve high machine availability, increased moulding speeds and better quality performance through improved core setting. We are also seeing more stable and uniform sand mould hardness and have reduced our finishing activities by improving dimensional mould precision and stability.”
